Clifton, VA Car Show 2014

I don't usually take my car to car shows because it's not really in show car condition, but I do try and make it to at least one local show a year. It's a fun mom and son activity my 11-year-old and I do together. He's very proud of "his" car and loves showing it off, and checking out all the other classic cars.

This year we went to a show we've wanted to go to for a while in historic Clifton, VA, and I was shocked when we drove up and saw another Mustang II! The first one I have ever seen at a show in this area (Northern VA). Even more crazy it was a 1977 coupe just like mine, only his was a modified car.

We parked beside each other (I'm so mad at myself for forgetting to take pictures!) and it was so funny to watch how spectators would do a double take because not only was there a Mustang II at the show (a rarity) but there were two of them!

It was crazy hot that day, so we spent a lot of time in the shade watching people go by. Our Mustang II always generates a lot of comments, mostly positive, and some friendly debate among spectators. Overall it was an awesome show and we'd love to go again next year!

Sharing the Mustang II Love

In May, my son, Nick, and I took our II to a Mustang car show in Woodbridge, VA. The car got a lot of positive attention--it was the only Mustang II there. A lot of people came up to us to ask questions and share stories about IIs they owned when they were young. I can't help feeling a little nervous, especially at an all-Mustang show, because I don't know how people are going to react, but I've noticed, as time goes on, the more excited people are to see a II in person.

Watching the judges go over it--pointing out all the flaws--was nerve-wracking, though. We decided next time just to display it & not have it judged. It's a bit unfair, really, to expect Mustang IIs to be perfect. Parts are so scarce. Honestly, we're grateful she has all her parts and runs as well as she does.

We never expect to get a trophy at shows--we just go to represent the IIs & have fun. I usually enter the car under Nick's name to make it more fun for him. We won 1st place in our class this time! Okay, we were the only car in our class :) but Nick could not have been prouder when he was handed his shiny trophy.

Carlisle All Ford Nationals 2010

My Mustang II is the only one in my town that I know of, so that's why I love going to the annual All Ford Nationals in Carlisle, PA. There is always a great turnout of 74-78 Mustangs. I was actually registered to show my 77 there in 2005, but my car broke down on the way. :( Fortunately I wasn't too far from home when it happened.

Even though my car wasn't up to the trip again this year, I had a great time checking out the incredible lineup of Mustang IIs--there were 14 of them! It was so amazing to see that many Mustang IIs all in one place. I've met a lot of owners on Mustang II Net and it's fun to put names with faces. My boys had a great time looking at all the cars and even got permission from one owner to sit in his Cobra II. I would love to take my car one day--it's a goal of mine, especially since there aren't that many coupes that show up. Maybe in 2011...
